About me

My father was a career Air Force officer which afforded me the opportunity/curse of growing up all over the world, attending new schools and meeting new friends every year, like it or not! We weren't much at building roots but learned to be comfortable meeting strangers with some skill. I attended Southern Methodist University on a swimming scholarship, joining the US Navy after completing graduate school in 1964, at the early stages of the Vietnam War. During my three cruises as an attack pilot on Yankee Station I had the dubious pleasure of completing over 400 carrier landings, all successfully, during that minor police action. It was a wonderful life but all good things….so I had to grow up and get a real job. 1970 is when I got my first sales job, selling business jets to Fortune 500 executives. It was a wonderful job, getting to know such famous people as Kirk Kerkorian, Bob Hope, Boone Pickens, Mayor Diane Feinstein, Henry Ford II, French President Mitterrand, and Jordanian King Hussein in addition to CEOs of most major US companies. But the recession of 1980 was a disaster for business aviation and I began a new career in commercial real estate in San Diego, where I was fortunate enough to build a very successful apartment business. I started my first company on borrowed money in 1988 which broadened my horizons to Minneapolis, Madison, WI, and Phoenix. Our business model for this records management business included storing and servicing critical hard-copy records for hospitals, law-firms, and hundreds of other businesses. It expanded to include managing back-up tapes, digital imaging, and finally building a maximum-security hot-site for disaster recovery for our clients, including Best Buy, Northwest Airlines, The Saint Paul Companies, US Bancorp, Sharp and Mercy Hospitals, Pet Smart and US Airways. But after 20 years it was time to settle down and stop traveling so I sold my company in the spring of 2006. I have always loved beautiful homes, often dragging my long-suffering wife Marla to open houses even when traveling throughout the world. So, in the summer of 2006 I began my new career, selling fine homes in San Diego. CA BRE #00447104
